SOUTH DORSET COIN

Postby dodger on October 11th, 2009, 5:12 pm

Plonker of the year has found a coin IN south Dorset But the plonker has,nt got a clue how to add a picture so I will describe it.Its a long figure walking to the right as you face it.The face is looking to viewer and the right arm is behind shoulder as if striding out.Just below the hand is a clearly marked S.I cannot make out the head on the other side.I also found a ring of metal that fits over it.I have found these before and think they are Roman coin guages,as it fits over the coin exactly. It is a solid ring with no join made of bronze but very thin and no detail.Ok, thats enough, come on you brains, what is it?

That was quick, I thought it would take ages to identify.Thats the good thing about being in a club, its full of people who really know their stuff. The figure on the back is Mars, the roman patron saint of sweetshops. He is carrying a long pole to thrust up the nether regions of club chairmen who recognise a duff coin when they see it.

Morning dodger, on a one good turn deserves another tack before I dissappear to go and join the Torbay crew and practice with my newly aquired second hand Minelab Explorer, re your don't have a clue how to post pictures. this may help... Or maybe not :? :)
Firstly when you save your images to your PC it's a good idea to make a separate folder for the images that you are going to put on line as they will become easier to find.

I'll assume that you have created a folder on your PC called Photobucket and another folder within that, lets call it Detector
Copy the images you wish to upload to your photobucket/detector folder on your PC.
Now go here and register, it's free and easy to use once you find your way around.
http://photobucket.com/

Once you've registered it's best to try and keep your photos in some sort of order so you may wish to create a new album for each group of images by clicking on the 'Add new album' tab and type in a name for the album, let's call it 'Detecting'.

Note, if you move or delete photos from the on line album they will disappear from the
posted message.
Once you've created your new 'detecting' album, click on the 'detecting' album tab that is now
in the left hand column to make sure you are uploading to this album.

Below left are some of my albums Ignore the Guardsman, the witches broom, the deep sea diver and the little piggy that's got a nasty cough, it all made sence when I posted them on another thread LOL
Image

Back in Photobucket, look to the centre top right window of the page and click on the 'from',
'my computer' button, then click on 'Upload images and videos'.

A new window will appear with your computer drive contents on it.
Image

Browse your computer from within this window and find your photbucket/Detector album, select
the image (highlight more if you have more than one image to upload) and click 'open'.

The image/s will now upload.
When it has finished uploading you will see it appear in your album. (You can edit the size
of the image if it looks a bit too big or your can set the size of the image before you upload).
Some sites will not allow an image if it's too large. There are a number of editing options
available for your images on your Photobucket page.

If you you move the mouse over your uploaded image you will see a menu pop up beneath the image which has a number of command lines. (note that the Guardsman has now got a menu beneath the image)
Move the mouse over the text next to 'IMG' on the menu, left click on the text, it will highlight it, then right click on the text and select 'copy', remember to keep the cursor over the text when you left then right click or it will not be copied).
Image

OK that's the hard bit.
I'll assume that you have already logged into the club site and are preparing a message ready to post.

E.g.

Hi everyone I've found this coin and I don't know what it is can anyone advise please.

Right click the mouse button on the next free line and select 'paste'. You will now see a link to your picture appear.
Image

Finally Click on the 'preview' tab before you post your message and you should see your image load as shown above :O)
If you're happy with it post the message.
Hope that all makes sense :? :)

OK guys I'll leave you in peace now. Thanks for your help once again
